Bio
A halfling bard whose life seems glued to improbable misfortune and stranger luck, Marin fled Baldur’s Gate after an entire street mysteriously vanished. Guided by Tymora’s whimsy, he now crafts humming gemstones in a shop that may or may not have chosen him.
Marin Gemcutter never meant to become a refugee—yet fate rarely waits for permission. One morning in Baldur’s Gate, the entire street he lived on simply vanished. No fire, no wreckage, no witnesses. Just missing. The city called it a “structural illusion event.” Marin called it a disturbingly personal omen. Raised without roots by wandering troupes and questionable mentors, Marin never learned the stability halflings are famed for. What he did learn was the secret music inside gemstones—small flickers of luck and possibility only he seemed able to hear. One fateful evening, a discordant chord from his lute shattered a gem in his pocket, and every patron in the tavern won their next card hand. Tymora’s priests claimed divine blessing. Marin suspected the universe had hiccupped. The vanishing-street incident pushed him north, where a storm forced him into Neverwinter. A dilapidated jeweler’s stall seemed to warm at his presence, his remaining gems humming softly. Tymora’s whisper felt almost tangible: “Stay. Try your luck.” Now he runs Gemcutter’s Fortune, selling enchanted baubles of questionable reliability and undeniable charm. Customers swear his jewels sing; Marin insists they only hum.
