Haalen Hidebinder was born among the whispering boughs near the Dragonmere, where the wind carries equal parts salt and mischief. As a wood elf, he was expected to become a quiet steward of the forest—until he discovered the Dragon Coast. Proskur’s chaos reshaped him: caravans, pirates, mercenaries, smugglers… Haalen befriended or insulted all of them equally. His closest companions were the Redwake Sisters, a half-elf smuggler, a human bounty-hunter, and a tiefling herbalist. With them he crossed borders, outran Purple Dragons, and learned to cure, shape, enchant, and toughen hides from beasts both mundane and wildly ill-advised. His fame grew after crafting a brigandine from the hide of a wyrmling that tried to eat him. Bards added that he seduced the dragon first. Haalen never denied it. Eventually his notoriety became inconvenient. Captains wanted him. Crime lords wanted him. Cormyrean officers wanted him to “explain himself.” Haalen dislikes explaining himself. So he drifted north until Neverwinter felt familiar enough to claim. Now he runs Hidebinder’s Craft, renowned for leather that flexes like living bark and armor that smells faintly of wild freedom. He still ‘gets around’—but now he charges extra.
